Alvarez, Celia de Guzman, 98, of Wack Wack, Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, Philippines, passed away on April 26, 2026. She was very loved by her children, nieces and nephews, her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and their partners and spouses. Celia was the inspiring and dynamic mother of Elvira V. Daza (née Vital) of Bellflower, CA, USA, Edgardo Ho of Quezon City, Enrique Ho of Bulacan, Elizabeth Schindler (née Ho) of Vernon, BC, Canada, and Anna Lisa Castro (née Ho) of Vernon, BC, Canada. She is also survived by her brother Zoilo Alvarez of San Diego, CA, USA; sons-in-law Nilo C. Daza of Bellflower, CA, USA, and Guenter Schindler of Vernon, BC, Canada; nieces Bernadette Malasarte of San Diego, CA, USA, Kristine M. Alvarez and her partner Jennifer D. Mijares of Marikina, and Rowena O. Alvarez and her husband Rafael Chris F. Teston of Las Piñas; nephews Roberto Malasarte and his wife Lutgarda Malasarte of Atlanta, GA, USA, Jeremy Alvarez of San Diego, CA, USA, and Oliver Alvarez of Alaska, USA; and grandchildren Angela Ho of New York, NY, USA, Dr. Eric J. Daza and his wife Amanda J. Selin of Menlo Park, CA, Macy Ho of the USA, Patricia A. Daza-Luu and her husband Billy Luu of Culver City, CA, USA (and their children, William and Ruth), Mark Ho and his wife Analyn Ho of Metro Manila, Bryan Ho of the USA, Dr. Stephanie M. Powell (née Schindler) and her husband Dr. James Powell of Edmonton, AB, Canada (and their children, Henry and Theodore), Dr. Christine Ho of Metro Manila, Isabel Castro and her husband Matthew Woodhouse of Vancouver, BC, Canada (and their children, Lucas and Ava), Dr. Kimberly Castro and her partner Dr. Stuart Brown of Vancouver, BC, Canada, Kitin Ho of the USA, Paco Ho of the USA, Patrick Schindler and his wife Emma Armstrong of Kelowna, BC, Canada, and Mae Ho of Metro Manila; and dedicated and devoted caregiver and companion Mary Ann Rano Cabutotan of Cavite. Celia is predeceased by her father and mother, Jose and Olivia Alvarez, and by her siblings Nemesia Alvarez, Pablo Alvarez, Florencio Alvarez, and Jose Alvarez.

Family and friends may attend A Celebration of Life Mass at Arlington Memorial Services (arlingtonph.com) located at 12 Gregorio Araneta Ave, Quezon City, 1113 Metro Manila, Philippines from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on April 29 (Wednesday), April 30 (Thursday), and May 1 (Friday), followed by a viewing from 11:00 am onwards after each Mass. (Please contact Arlington on each day after 11:00 am to confirm the viewing is still ongoing.) Eulogies will be delivered promptly at 11:00 am during the viewing on April 29 (Wednesday) only. Cremation service and columbarium service (Christ the King, Greenmeadows Ave, Quezon City) are private.
